People of Kenyan descent have inherited a highly diverse genetic heritage from a region that is home to almost every major ethnic group found in greater Africa. The majority of Kenyans belong to various Bantu sub-groups. People with Kenyan ethnic roots are also found in the islands near Kenya, including Madagascar, Seychelles, Comoros, and Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean. Major migrations over the last few decades due to economic and political instability have resulted in large Kenyan populations in the U.K., U.S., and Australia. Kenya has produced a disproportionately high number of elite distance runners, most of whom are members of the Kalenjin tribe.
